James Brissey Obituary
James Alton Brissey, 92, of Anderson, South Carolina, died Sunday April 22, 2007 at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born May 7, 1914 in Ware Shoals, he was the son of the late WJ Brissey and Lula Mae Brissey. He graduated high school in Piedmont, SC and attended the University of South Carolina, where his activities included Class President, President of Mu Sigma Phi Clariosophic Literary Society, boxing, member of Kappa Sigma Kappa service fraternity, Kappa Phi Kappa professional fraternity, and at graduation was inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa leadership fraternity. Al spent 35 years with S.H. Kress & Co. where he retired as Director of Sales Promotion and Advertising before moving to N. Miami, FL with his wife, Rosemarie. Upon his wife's death in 2005, Al moved to National Health Care in Anderson. Al spent 3-1/2 years in the Army, discharged as Captain. He was the first Eagle Scout in Piedmont, and was recently recognized for 75 years of service to the community. Surviving are his children: Tica Tallent and her husband, Dr. Larry Tallent of Anderson; Roxie Gunter and her husband Leonard Gunter of Sanford, NC; Rev. James Brissey, Jr. and his wife, Rev. Jean Brissey of Deland, FL; 7 grandchildren: Scott, Mickey, Travis, Connie, Andrea, James Alton III, and Monica; 5 great grandchildren: Elicia, Gina, James Alton IV, David and Joseph; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Davis of Easley; Dot Brissey of Piedmont and brother, Bill Brissey of Easley. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM Wednesday April 25, 2007 at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 Hwy 81 North. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Higher Ground Ministries, P.O. Box 1313, Deland, FL 32721. SULLIVAN-KING MORTUARY, NORTHEAST CHAPEL, is in charge of arrangements.
