Lt. Colonel James D. Marett, Jr.

Anderson, SC

A Memorial Service honoring the life of Lt. Colonel James D. Marett, Jr. (Ph.D.) will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 14th, at Sullivan-King Mortuary, 3205 North Hwy 81, Anderson, S.C. At the request of the family there will be no visitation. The service will be conducted by Dr. Jack Couch of Boulevard Baptist Church, where James and his wife, Olga attended services.

James was born on December 12th, 1951 in Seneca, S.C., and died at home in Anderson, S.C., on January 8th, 2017 after battling lung cancer. James childhood was spent at a U.S. Army dependent, where his parents and siblings were stationed in several locations throughout the U.S. as well as in Germany and Taiwan.

James graduated high school in Alabama in 1969, and briefly attended Clemson University before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1972. In 1976, James became a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army, with stations throughout the U.S. and South Korea. During this service, James also achieved a B.Sc. from the University of Alabama at Huntsville, as well as a M.A. and Ph.D. at the University of South Carolina. James retired from military service in 1994, with the rank of a Lt. Col. and finishing an assignment as the Political and Military advisor to the Assistant Sectary of State, in Washington D.C.

After military retirement, James worked as a consultant for American corporations undertaking international business in the Asia & Pacific region, and finished is professional career in 2016 working on sustainability projects in developing countries with his son (Douglas's) company. James was a lifelong fan of Clemson Football, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and was passionate about assisting others in achieving their goals in life.

James is survived by his wife Olga, his sons and their wives Douglas and Camilla, and Dmitriy and Erica, and granddaughters Joanna and Julia. James was preceded in death by his first wife, Jo Ann in 1993.
