JANET W. WATSON
ANDERSON- Janet West Watson, 90, of Anderson, wife of the late Wade Allen Watson, Jr., died Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at the Foothills Presbyterian Home in Easley.
Born July 7, 1919 in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, she was the daughter of the late Lyman E. and Vesta R. West. She later moved to Seattle, WA with her family, attended Seattle Schools and the University of Washington. After college and during World War II, she joined the 7th Fighter Wing AAF of the Women's Air Raid Defense of the Hawaiian Islands and served from October 28, 1944 to September 17, 1945. While serving, she met the love of her life, Army Captain Wade Allen Watson, Jr. They married on January 6, 1946 at the First Presbyterian Church in Burlingame, CA. After the wedding, they moved to Anderson and were blessed with 58 years of marriage. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church of Anderson.
Janet formed close friendships in the Garden Club and Bridge Club, which she was a member for many years. She was also a member of the Women's Junior League of Anderson, the Revelers Club and a tennis group. She worked for Head Start and the American Cancer Society. She and her husband, Wade travelled extensively throughout the world.
Surviving are her daughter, Caroline Watson Green and her husband, Stephen L. Green of Greensboro, NC, son, Charles West Watson and his wife, Cynthia C. Watson of Columbia, SC, brother-in-law, Jim Gray Watson and his wife, Julia Anderson Watson of Anderson, four grandchildren, James Norman Lyons and his wife, Lisa E. Lyons, Justin Lyons and his wife, Kimberly A. Lyons, Charles West Watson, II and Martha Elizabeth Watson, and great grandchildren, Grayson Michael Lyons, Macy Sheldon Lyons, Alexander Leek Lyons and Nathaniel McCabe Lyons. She is also survived by Roger and Jean Dillon of Salem, and nieces and nephews, J. Gray Watson, Jr., Ansley W. Chambers and W. Andrew Watson and their families. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Wade Allen Watson, III.
A memorial service will be held at 3 PM Sunday at Central Presbyterian Church with Dr. David J. Bailey officiating. A private burial will be held prior to the service. The family will receive friends following the service in the church Fellowship Hall.
