ANDERSON, SC - Julia B. "Judy" Vanuk Putnam, 89, of Anderson, SC passed away March 23, 2012 in Sunrise Assisted Living, Westfield, NJ. Born November 14, 1922 in Iva, SC to William Lon Bryant and Magnolia Evans, one of 12 children. After proudly graduating from Calhoun Falls, SC High School in 1939, she moved to Newport News, VA, to work at the Port of Embarkation. There she met her future husband, Paul while he was stationed in the US Army. They were married for 35 years until his death in 1980. Together they raised 5 children at their home in Colonia, NJ.
Judy retired to Anderson, SC in 1990. In 1993 Judy renewed a friendship with James Putnam whom she dated in high school but had not seen in 55 years. They were married on November 28, 1998 until his death in 2000.
Judy was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend and will be greatly missed. She loved her family unconditionally and cherished all of her friends.
Judy was predeceased by her brothers and sisters Richard, Reedy, Broadus, Gerald, Archie, Madge, Mabel and Betty and her step brothers and sister Hoppy, Charles, JD and Cleo, She was also predeceased by her grandson Paul Lazarowitz in 2008.
Judy was a beloved mother and is survived by her children, Paula Vanuk of Anderson, SC, Brenda Hynes and her husband Gerry of Cranford, NJ, Gregory Vanuk and his wife Renee of Prescott, AZ, Sherri Raquet of Sparta, NJ, and Nancy Lazarowitz and her husband Jack of Coral Springs, FL. She is also survived by her grandchildren Victoria, Lauren, John, Kelly, Hannah, Dayna, and Heather. Also surviving is her sister Liggy, brothers Austin and George, step sisters Hazel and Helen (Snooks) and many loving nieces and nephews.
Burial services were held on Tuesday March 27, 2012 at the Pettit-Davis Funeral Home, Rahway, NJ. Internment was at Cloverleaf Memorial Park, Woodbridge, NJ.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 pm Sunday, April 15th at Unity Baptist Church in Starr, SC with the Rev. Lloyd Robison officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Alzheimer's Association, 225 North Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601 or at www.alz.org.
