W. R. (BOB) MILLARD, JR.
MIAMI, FL - W. R. (Bob) Millard, Jr., 80, passed away of natural causes at his home in Miami, FL on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 with his family by his side.
He was the son of the late W.R. Millard, Sr. and Willie Mae Hewitt Vandiver. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Julia Millard; son, W. R. (Robbie) Millard III and his wife, AJ Millard of Miami, FL; daughter, Karine White and husband, Barry White of Abbeville, SC; grandchildren, Melissa Millard, Dustin Fox, Josh Fox, Anna White, and Haley White; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bezdek and their family; and brother-in-law, Alex Taylor.
Born as an only child and parents having no siblings, he attended Miami Jackson School for 12 years and was known as an Allapattah Rat. He was a graduate of the University of Miami, with a major in Chemistry and a minor in Physics. Mr. Millard taught chemistry and physics at Ransom school at Coconut Grove. He then moved to his career as a chemist working for multiple companies formulating unique products. In 1981, he and his daughter started their own company, Atlantic Products in Westminster, SC.
Bob was baptized at Central Baptist Church of Miami, where he was a member of Boy Scout 1, and was married there by Dr. C. Roy Angell. In late stages of Alzheimer's, he recalled "being married by an angel." He enjoyed catching Everglades' snakes and selling to the Miami Serpentarium. He also enjoyed traveling with his family, clogging, sporting events, and above all, bowling on the PBA Tour, which was his lifelong dream. He spent his summers at the family cabin in North Carolina. He served as a Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary Trooper for over 21 years and also served in the U.S. Army.
Funeral services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2012 at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson, SC. The family will receive from 5 until 6:30 p.m. Friday prior to the service. Final burial services will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 2, 2012 at the Millard Family Cemetery located at Cedar Creek Farm in Abbeville, SC. The family is at the home of Barry and Karine White, 353 Crooked Road, Abbeville.
