Willie Turner Wood, Sr., age 80, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at AnMed Health Medical Center.
Born in Anderson, SC on August 6, 1936, he was the son of the late Arthur Dodson Wood, Sr. and the late Virginia Eloise Finley Wood. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for four years as a military policeman. Willie owned and operated Willie Wood Heating and Air and was the first licensed master electrician in the City of Anderson. He was also a City of Anderson police office for six years, beginning in 1959. Willie was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Zada Beth Wood; his children, Turner Wood (Kathryn), of Lexington, SC, Virginia Wood Sellers (Larry), of Anderson, SC, and Laura Wood Webb (Drew), of Anderson, SC; a brother, Arthur D. Wood, Jr of Belton, SC; a sister, Frances Wood Pickard of Jacksonville, FL; six grandchildren, Tabitha Merritt (Chris), Spearman Trado (Hannah), Kelsey Wood, Mary Kate Wood, Addison Webb, and Aden Webb; and five great-grandchildren, Casey, Zoe, Charley, Ava, and London Merritt.
The funeral service will be held at Temple Baptist Church on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Steve Hurte officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
