WINFIELD SHARP
July 24, 1936 - October 23, 2012
Anderson, SC. - Winfield Kennedy Sharp IV, 76, of Sandy Springs, SC, passed away at Clemson Downs Health Care on October 23, 2012, following several years of declining health.
Born July 24, 1936, he was the son of the late W.K. Sharp III and Vivian Hopkins Sharp of Sandy Springs.
Winfield was a member of Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church in Sandy Springs where he grew up and a former member and ruling elder of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Walhalla for over forty years. He attended Clemson University. He retired from the U.S. Army Reserve following 20 years of service and retired from the Soil Conservation Service (USDA) with thirty years of service. He earned the designation of Master Tree Farmer for best practices in forestry. He was a long-time member of the Pendleton Farmers Society.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Athleen Todd Sharp; two sons, Todd Sharp and wife Danette of Kennesaw, GA, and Dan Sharp and wife Christine of Anderson; three grandchildren: Sean Dillard, John Sharp, and Elizabeth Sharp and one sister, Hopkins Sharp Gaylord of Sandy Springs.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, St. Clair Sharp.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 27, 2012, at Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church in Sandy Springs with the Reverend Lindsay Hatch officiating. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
Burial will follow in the Bethel Presbyterian Church cemetery in Walhalla, SC at 4:00 pm with Reverend Frank Strickland officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in his memory may be made to Bethel Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 617, Walhalla, SC 29691; Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 429, Sandy Springs, SC 29677; or to the charity of one's choice.

Athleen....so sorry to read about your loss. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family at this sad time. I will never forget our fabulous visit with you and Winfield on our visit to South Carolina. I can tell you that Howard enjoyed seeing you both again after all the years that had passed. I lost Howard two years ago this month, which has been hard for me. His death was sudden and unexpected, and I hope that him and Winfield are visiting again! Thinking of you. Janice Curtis
