Gail Kushnir Obituary
SAUNDERSTOWN, RI- Gail Ann Kushnir, 67, passed away quietly on September 25, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born in New York City, she was the cherished daughter of the late Frederick and Filomena (Curci) Kushnir, of North Kingstown, and the beloved wife of Richard Thacher, of Saunderstown.
Gail was the essence of beauty in every imaginable way. A faithful steward of the earth and lover of classical music, Gail marched everywhere for peace and justice for all, including Hands Across America and in DC for the March for Women's Lives.
Growing up in Flushing, NY, Avon, CT, and Wheaton, IL, she always found her way to the art room and made a home there. She took her creative talents to Northern Illinois University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts, fearlessly navigating the windy campus in the cornfields of DeKalb with her gigantic art portfolio stuffed with spectacular watercolors. Gail's artwork has been shown from coast to coast, including many years at the Gold Coast Art Fair in Chicago. She worked with watercolors, charcoal, pastels, metals, fabric, paper, yarn, pottery clay and anything she could find in the great outdoors.
Married to Ross Logan in Wheaton, they lived throughout the Chicagoland area, also experimenting with Minneapolis. Following Ross's passing, Gail and her faithful companion Nikki moved to Rhode Island, where she found a tiny house by the sea and planted breathtaking gardens. She was devoted to end-of-life care, working for HopeHealth, managing their statewide volunteer force. Retiring from hospice, Gail married Richard and they settled into a beautiful home that Gail turned into a
showstopper, filled with warmth and love and food for family and friends, plus always more ART. They worked together building their own variety of amazing gardens full of life and beauty.
Gail is survived by her sister, Kathy Kushnir, of North Kingstown, brother, Bradley (Molly Sullivan) Kushnir, of Hingham, MA, niece and nephew, Shea and Devan Kushnir, of NYC, uncle, Lou Katz, of Oakland, CA, cousins, Anna (Norman) Silverman, of Solana Beach, CA, and Steven (Rosa) Katz, of Fairfax, CA, brother-in-law, Philip (Karen) Thacher, of Huntley, IL, step-son, Michael (Jennifer) Thacher, of Wakefield, and sister-in-law, Ann Logan Shipley, and niece, Katie Shipley, of Naperville, IL.
