Helene Kushnir Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by T.J. Fluehr Funeral Home on Mar. 3, 2026.
Helene Marie (Farren) Kushnir passed away peacefully at the age of seventy-four years on March 1, 2026, at her home, surrounded by the love of her family.

Helene lived a life defined by quiet strength, compassion, and a deep devotion to those around her. She had a remarkable way of making everyone feel welcome, supported, and cared for - always putting the needs of others before her own and finding joy in the simple moments spent with the people she loved most.

She is the high school sweetheart and wife of 54 years to Myron Kushnir and dedicated Mother to three children, Helene (Michael) Horchuck, Mark Kushnir, and Paul (Sue) Kushnir. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Timothy, Alex, Michael, Brandon, Jake, Natalie, Angela, Sofia, and Ariana, each of whom brought immense happiness to her life. She is also survived by her sisters, Marie (Terry) McGuigan and Louise Dougherty as well as many loving extended family members, including brothers-in-laws, sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents Bertha and Edward Farren, sister Mary Keaser and brother Edward Farren Jr.

Helene found joy in cooking for family and friends, spending time crocheting, relaxing at the shore, and working on puzzles. She had a special love for family pets and took great delight in feeding and watching the wildlife behind her home each day - from birds and squirrels to the deer that would gather nearby. Most importantly, she cherished every moment spent with her family, especially her grandchildren, whose lives she touched with her kindness, patience, and unconditional love.

While her children attended Stephen Decatur Elementary School, Helene was an active and dedicated member of the Parent Teacher Association, serving in various roles including Secretary, Co-President, and President. She also gave generously of her time as a CCD teacher at Saint Anselm's Parish Church for several years, helping guide and support the faith of the young.

Helene's legacy is one of warmth, generosity, and a life spent caring for others. Her love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing and funeral on Saturday March 7, 2026 from 9:15 - 10:15 AM at St Anselm Church, 12670 Dunksferry Rd. Funeral Mass 10:30 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in her memory to support research at the Sjogren's Foundation, http://www.sjogrens.org.
