Charles Sloop, Jr. CONCORD Mr. Charles Clayton Sloop, Jr., 88, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011, at Bob and Carolyn Tucker Hospice House. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 25, 2011, at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jessica Padgett and close family friend, Sarah Underwood, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. today, Nov. 25, at the funeral home. Mr. Sloop was born Feb. 25, 1923, in Cabarrus County, son of the late Charles C. Sloop, Sr., and Myrtle Lipe Sloop. He was a WWII Army Air Force veteran. He retired from Ben Mynatt Chevrolet, and was a member of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church and of Wilmar Park Lions Club. Survivors include his wife, Betsy Laughlin Sloop; daughter, Rebecca Sloop Miller of Concord; son, Charles "Chip" Sloop, III, and wife, Celeste, of Durham; grandchildren, Charles C. Sloop, IV, Grace Celeste Sloop, Ashlyn O'Neil Miller and Mitchell Colin Miller; and sister, Helen S. Quinn of Concord. Memorials may be made to Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, 401 Pitts School Rd.
