Charles Sloop Obituary

Charles Sloop, Jr. CONCORD Mr. Charles Clayton Sloop, Jr., 88, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011, at Bob and Carolyn Tucker Hospice House. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 25, 2011, at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jessica Padgett and close family friend, Sarah Underwood, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. today, Nov. 25, at the funeral home. Mr. Sloop was born Feb. 25, 1923, in Cabarrus County, son of the late Charles C. Sloop, Sr., and Myrtle Lipe Sloop. He was a WWII Army Air Force veteran. He retired from Ben Mynatt Chevrolet, and was a member of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church and of Wilmar Park Lions Club. Survivors include his wife, Betsy Laughlin Sloop; daughter, Rebecca Sloop Miller of Concord; son, Charles "Chip" Sloop, III, and wife, Celeste, of Durham; grandchildren, Charles C. Sloop, IV, Grace Celeste Sloop, Ashlyn O'Neil Miller and Mitchell Colin Miller; and sister, Helen S. Quinn of Concord. Memorials may be made to Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, 401 Pitts School Rd. SW, Concord, NC 28027 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Ln., Kannapolis, NC 28081. Condolences may be left at www.wilkinsonfuneralhome.com. Wilkinson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for the Sloop family.
