Formerly of Indiana, Diane R Smith, 82, passed away Friday, November 7, 2025 at home in Concord, N.C. She is survived by daughters, Connie (Craig) Philbeck and Kathryn (Jeff) Vlach; grandchildren, BriAnna and Nicholas Vlach; four brothers, one sister, two sister-in-laws, and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Diane lived in NC over 50 years. As an educator, she worked in both Union County schools and the Expeditions program in Kannapolis. She took pride in her work and often talked of "her kids." She loved reading, working in the garden, British television, murder mysteries, and ceramics. She also loved all animals, especially her cats. The family will be receiving friends on Saturday, November 15, 2025 from 11 to 1 at Cabarrus Funeral, Cremation and Cemetery at 3892 NC Hwy 73 East, Concord, NC 28025. Donations may be made to Doctors Without Borders, Carolina Waterfowl Rescue, or Wounded Warrior Project.
