Mrs. Doris Ann (Shoe) Covington, 87, of 521 Bent Oak Trail, Concord passed away Friday, February 3, 2023, at her home.

She was born on April 20, 1935 in Cabarrus County to the late Herman and Evelyn Shoe. She graduated from Hartsell High School in 1954. She was a long-term operator at Concord Telephone Company and a member of Hopewell Baptist Church.

She married Fred Newell Covington, Jr. in 1957 and had one son, Fred Newell "Chip" Covington III in 1959. Doris was preceded in death by both her husband, Fred in 2002, and Chip in 2009. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Avery Shoe.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, February 5, at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 6, at West Concord Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Covington and the Rev. Sammy Pierce officiating. At other times, the family will be meeting at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Michael Covington, 7884 Grimsby Circle, Harrisburg, NC.

Doris is survived by two sisters, Sylvia Burleson of Salisbury, Marie Eudy of Wilmington, and two brothers, Ike Shoe of Charlotte and Chuck Shoe (Diane) of Midland.

Doris is also survived by two grandsons who were her pride and joy, Chad Covington and wife Brittany, of Concord, and Chase Covington and his significant other, Laurie Barrier of Mount Pleasant, NC. In addition, Doris is survived by three great- granddaughters, Aiyana, Lilah and Taylor.
