Gary Reid Obituary

Gary Ravon Reid

December 24, 1953 - July 6, 2024

Gary R. Reid, 70, died unexpectedly July 6, 2024, at a hospital in St. Petersburg, FL. He was born December 24, 1953, in Concord, NC, the son of Gladys Reid and Lytle Russell. He was known to his family as Gary, and to most of his friends as "Reid". Reid was raised in Kannapolis, NC, by Kate and Dan McCree, his paternal aunt and uncle, who loved and cared for him as their own son, and whom he deeply loved as his "mom" and "pop".

Reid played football at A.L. Brown High School in Kannapolis and graduated in 1972. After briefly living in Chicago, Reid moved to Greensboro, NC, where he met his wife, Bonnie (Scott) in 1976. Reid and Bonnie were married in 1982, celebrating 42 years of marriage on June 19, 2024. Out of that union, Reid and Bonnie became proud parents to their son, Derrick Reid.

Reid and Bonnie lived in many different states and cities, with their final relocation to St. Petersburg in June 2023. Reid loved to fish, entertain friends and family, was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan, and never met a stranger.

In addition to his parents, Reid was predeceased by his sisters Dianne Johnson and Geraldine Marshall, brothers Billy Foard and Harry Campbell, and son Gary Bryant.

Surviving in addition to his wife Bonnie and their son Derrick, are two brothers James Campbell (Anita) and Stevie Reid (Rosalind), daughter Jana Mitchell, three grandchildren Jawan Wilkes, Destiny Turner and Khyla Wilkes, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

May Reid's memory be as a blessing. He was a man blessed with the great passion and simple joy of going fishing, watching a cowboy's game, being with friends and family- a beautiful soul. May his family find comfort in this.

Reid,

I am still disbelief that you are gone. You and Bonnie created lots of fun memories for me during my time in Tampa. I will miss cheering against you during the Dallas Cowboy games but every game I watch in the future I will be thinking of you. Prayers to you and your family.

God bless you!

My Dad, My own Daddy was a great individual and someone that was greatly admired. I will forever miss him even though he is gone and I'm forever broken by this passing and it damages my heart to know that he is gone away from this world and we didn't get the final goodbyes but a text saying that I love you.
To all that knew him knew him to be a Dallas Cowboys fan and if you are family that is what you showed up in or else but the only other team you would see him in is Florida, or Baltimore Ravens..lol
I will forever have memories of my dad that will last me for a lifetime, Gene please take care of our dad for me, Auntie Geraldine please watch for him and y'all please save a seat for me for when its time, and save me some livermush
He is loved and will be missed by many...

Reidy will be greatly missed. He was the best BIL to have. He welcomed us into his heart and his home. Always had a smile for us. He knew I liked lamb, so whenever we got together he would cook that lamb "just for me". He was so kind and generous always. It´s hard trying to sum up in just a few words about how a person was. All I can say is that he was loved and will be greatly missed for so many reasons. Love you BIL.
