Joan Pendergraft Obituary

Joan McMahan Pendergraft

June 25, 1946 - August 29, 2025

Joan "Jo Jo" McMahan Pendergraft, age 79, of Concord, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 29, 2025, at Tucker Hospice House, surrounded by the love of her family.

A service to celebrate Joan's life will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 1 p.m., at New Grace Baptist Church, officiated by Alan Montgomery. The family will receive friends at the church from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., prior to the service. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Concord.

Born on June 25, 1946, in Franklin, N.C., to the late Zeb and Pauline (Mashburn) McMahan. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Annalee Wade; brother, Lowell McMahan; and her beloved grandchildren, Lacey Pendergraft and David Pendergraft.

Joan lived a life rooted in family, love, and simple joys. Her wisdom came through a lifetime of experiences and the steadfast devotion she poured into those she loved.

For 60 years, Joan shared her life with her beloved husband, John David Pendergraft. Together they built a home filled with laughter, warmth, and faith. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Joan poured her heart into raising her children and found great joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense happiness to her life.

Joan loved the simple pleasures-spending quiet hours fishing, cherishing her time caring for her grandchildren, and staying active in the lives of her family. Her kind, nurturing spirit touched all who knew her, leaving a legacy of love and compassion. She also was a longtime, devoted member of New Grace Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, John David Pendergraft; children, Bobby Joe Pendergraft, Linda Gail Hall (Derrick), and Larry Pendergraft (Lisa)-and found her greatest joy in her grandchildren, Kym Hall, Jonathan Pendergraft, Travis Hall, Lucas Pendergraft, Ray Pendergraft, and Isaac Pendergraft, as well as great-grandchildren, Alanis Pendergraft, McKinley Pendergraft, Jasper Pendergraft, Leo Hall, Jayden Hall, and Leigha Owenby; sister, Linda Townsend; brother, Marlin McMahan (Diane); and extended family and friends who will hold her memory dear.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wilderness Conservation Society, honoring Joan's lifelong love for the mountains and fishing.

The family extends their deepest gratitude for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support during this difficult time.
