Margaret Hoke Obituary
LANDIS - Margaret Jane Alexander Hoke, 84, a longtime resident of Landis, passed away Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008, at The Lutheran Home in Salisbury following an extended illness.
She was born June 12, 1923, in Landis, to John Ulysses and Fannie Kirk Alexander, and was the youngest daughter of 13 children. She was educated at Landis High School and at Catawba College, where she met and married her husband of 34 years, Owen Heller Hoke, son of former Catawba College President Elmer Rhodes Hoke.
After a few years at Cannon Mills as an administrative secretary, she dedicated herself to rearing four children. She was a loving grandmother to her eight grandchildren, each the light of her life.
Survivors include three sons, O. Alexander Hoke (and wife, Debby Holbrook) of Juneau, Alaska; Stephen R. Hoke (and wife, Adelina) and Thomas E. Hoke of Landis; and one daughter, Margaret "Peggy" Hoke Holmes (and husband, Richard) of Lake Jackson, Texas; eight grandchildren, Hayden H. Hoke, Patrick A. Hoke, Zander K. Hoke, Danika J. Hoke, Karisa M. Hoke, Kelsey E. Holmes, Hilary K. Holmes, and Addison K. Holmes. One sister, Della Mae Alexander, (formerly of Landis), now of Salisbury, survives her, as do nine nephews and nine nieces.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Linn Honeycutt Funeral Home in Landis. At other times, they will be at the Trinity Oaks residence of her devoted sister, Della Mae Alexander, Apt. 324-B, 728 Klumac Road, Salisbury.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 11a.m. at Mount Zion United Church of Christ in China Grove, where she was a member. The Rev. William Campbell will officiate, and burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.
