Nancy Ferguson Obituary

Nancy Maloney Ferguson

July 20, 1951 - October 15, 2021

Nancy Maloney Ferguson, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend entered her eternal rest on Friday, Oct. 15, 2021.

She was a graduate of Hampton High School and Radford University. She was an educator for 35+ years, retiring in 2013. She spent most of those years as a Family and Consumer Science teacher at Concord High School. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, Concord, Presbyterian Women, and the S & D Sunday school class. She had a tremendous love for her family, grandchildren, and friends. She loved to bake, prepare meals, sew, & welcomed everyone into her home. She also looked forward to family gatherings of any kind. After she retired, she enjoyed monthly breakfasts with "The Retired Teachers" group from CHS and trips to Hallmark to purchase cards for family and friends. Despite her 8 year health battle, she forged ahead through her illness with a smile and a sparkle in her blue eyes for everyone.

Nancy had a great love for her family and will be sorely missed by her husband of 46 years, Steve; daughters, Kathleen Tweardy (Brad) and Margaret Gregg (Mason); Nana to Kennedy and Jackson (Tweardy) and the soon to arrive Georgia (Gregg), beloved sister to David (Eleanor) and Bobby (Tami) Maloney; aunt, cousin, and friend to many. Preceded in death by her parents, James Alfred and Rose Marie Maloney.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 27, at 2 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church, 70 Union Street N., in Concord. Following the service the family will have a gathering of family and friends in Davis Hall. Her final resting place will be determined at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Glioblastoma Foundation.

oh Mrs. Ferguson - - you will go down in history as my favorite teacher. i wish i had learned more from you - your gentle voice and kind nature (but i'm getting it as i get older) and i really wish i had put your cooking lessons to better use (!) - - but ultimately what i remember is the conversations before class, slipping in between classes, and everything in between. thank you for always thinking i was the cat's meow and laughing at my shenanigans. i love you to pieces!

I taught the FACS classes at Concord Middle School for many years. I tried to sent my students to Nancy a little better prepared to excel in her classes. She was such a lovely person who was always ready to lend a helping hand. I have such fond memories of her beautiful daughters in my class. Nancy will be greatly missed. Sending prayers for each of you.
