Nannie Auten Obituary

CONCORD - On Sunday morning, May 13, 2007, our world became dimmer with the death of our beloved mother and grandmother, Nannie Mae Shoe Auten. Nannie was lifted to Heaven on the wings of angels while surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Born March 30, 1907, in Cabarrus County, Nannie was the fourth child of nine children born to the late Hattie Geneva Blackwelder Shoe and Mumford Lillard Shoe. She was married to the late Robert Banks Auten for 49 years. As a lifelong member of Westford United Methodist Church, both she and her church celebrated 100 years this year. Her love for her church was unquestioned and she stood by the scriptures. She loved hearing the word and she knew she would meet Jesus face to face. Both heaven and earth are blessed by her presence. She was a strong Christian woman who loved her church and family. Proverbs 31:28: "Her children rise up and call her happy!" Nannie was the matriarch of a large and loving family. Taking care of her children, family and friends was one of her greatest accomplishments. She was preceded in death by her son, Richard Vann Auten; and siblings, Dewey Shoe, Daisy Faust, Myrtle Morton, Margaret Williams, Robert Shoe and James Shoe. She is survived by Rachel Wyatt, Betty Sides, Robert E. Auten (Johnsie), Glenda Ramsey (Jack) and Jimmy Auten (Lynda.) Nannie continued to nurture her family by helping care for the next generation of grandchildren, Lu-Ann Tomlin (Tracy) Alisha Wilson (Gary) Kim Wray (Eddie) Tommy Sides, Cheryl White (Keith), Debra Harrison, Nancy Cain (Glenn), Bobby Auten (Karen), Bobby Hammill, Jr. (Annette), Beth Lott (Danny) and Mike Sides (Selena). Fortunately for the family Nannie then nurtured the third generation of children, including Jessica Tomlin, Michael Tomlin, Sean Burris, Brandon White, Meredith White, Mary Harrison, Brock Harrison, Jennifer Auten, Jason Auten, Ryan Hammill, Stacy Hammill, Sarah Lott, Hannah Fritz Lott, Maddie Banks Lott, Ryan Robinson, Blake Sides, Matthew Sides, Colton Thomas Sides, Terry Thompson, Mike Thompson and Lynn Ross. Nannie is also survived by two sisters, Bessie Kennedy and Edith Auten (Bill); and sister-in-law Roberta Shoe. Nannie was a loving soul with never a harsh word for anyone. She was always ready to help friends, family or strangers. Her past times included reading her Bible daily, reading books, and doing word searches. Our family would love to see and hear your expressions of love regarding our mother. We will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home, Concord, today, May 15, 2007 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Westford United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jeff Rushing, the Rev. Robert Leonard and the Rev. Allen Montgomery officiating. Pallbearers will be Bobby Gene Hammill Jr., Bobby Vann Auten, Blake Sides, Brandon White, Stacy Hammill and Ryan Hammill. Other times you may visit with the family at the home of her son Robert (Beetle) Auten at 832 Old Charlotte Road. Memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Boy Scout Camp Road, Kannapolis, NC, 28081 or to Westford UMC, 273 NC 49 S., Concord, NC 28025

Dear Cheryl and family, Jerry and I would like to extend our condolences to your family in the passing of Mrs. Auten. We know so many of Mrs. Auten's family just by reading the obituary. What a wonderful life she has had and so many cherished memories of her. What a legacy of her love for the Lord was stated in her obituary. It was like reading a poem of her life. May the Lord guide your path during this time and may you find strength in knowing you have friends who are praying for you. Jerry & Marsha Kelly

Dear Cheryl: I was reading the obituaries this morning and spotted your grandmothers. What beautiful words were said about her. What a blessing to have had such a wonderful grandmother in your life and to have had her such a long time. I too, have lost my grandmothers who were wonderful to me but I know that I will see them again someday. I will be thinking of you, Keith, Meredith and Brandon.
