Paul Wilson Obituary

Paul Wilson CONCORD Mr. Paul Richard Wilson, 89, formerly of Germanton, N.C., died Wednesday evening, Feb. 15, 2012 at W.G. "Bill" Hefner Medical Center in Salisbury. He was born Feb. 10, 1923 in Huntingdon County, Pa., to Chester Stewart and Bessie T. Powell Wilson. He was retired and served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service. He served in WWII, the Korean Conflict and in Vietnam. He was a recipient of the North Carolina Governor's Award. Mr. Wilson was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church, where he was Lay Leader, Sunday school teacher and chairperson of the trustees. He was also the former commander of the VFW Post in Walnut Cove and a volunteer for the GED program at the Walnut Cove Library. A 2 p.m. funeral service will be held today, Sunday, Feb. 19, at Burroughs Chapel with the Rev. Patty Suggs officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at St. Mark United Methodist Church Cemetery in Germanton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Albert P. Wilson and Donald S. Wilson, and a sister, Mabel I. Wilson. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Helen Peoples Wilson of the home; two children, Winnie Sue Glenny and her husband, Jon of Antioch, Tenn., Joe Allen Wilson and his wife, Claudia of Concord; a grandson, Austin Gray Wilson; four siblings, Clyde F. Wilson of Bellville, Pa., Dale I. Wilson of Coatsville, Pa., Garnet A. Trimble of Spruce Creek, Pa. and Chester R. Wilson of Huntingdon, Pa. The family received friends Saturday, Feb. 18, at Burroughs Funeral Home in Walnut Cove and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to the Hospice Unit at W G "Bill" Hefner Medical Center, 1601 Brenner Avenue, Salisbury, NC 28144. Online condolences may be offered at burroughsfuneralhome. com. Burroughs Funeral Home in Walnut Cove is serving the Wilson family.
