William Laukaitis Obituary

Bill was born in Baltimore, Md., May 16, 1938, eldest child of Edward and Adele Gowallis Laukaitis.
He was married June 11, 1966, to Anne Spence and is the father of two children, son, Edward Doyle (Ted) Laukaitis (Andrea LaClair); daughter, Kate Laukaitis Tingen (Glenn Tingen); grandchildren, Sydney Freeze, Anson Laukaitis, Garrett Tingen, Ellis Tingen, Grace Laukaitis; and step-granddaughters Katherine and Renee LaClair. He is survived by his sister, the Rev. Barbara Laukaitis; sisters-in-law, Mary Spence Laukaitis, Marge Spence Starr, Renee McGuirk Spence, and Sally McCullough Spence; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, John Laukaitis.
He died Wednesday, October 20, 2021, following a period of declining health, cared for by his family with the assistance of Hospice.
Bill graduated from Loyola University in Baltimore (BA); Duke University (MA) and the University of Maryland (PhD). He taught for the University of Maryland for eight years, Barber-Scotia in Concord for seven years and ended his professional career with 25 years at UNC Charlotte.
A celebration of life memorial service is planned for Sunday, Nov. 7, at 3 p.m., in the chapel at Whitley's Funeral Home, 1748 Dale Earnhardt Blvd. in Kannapolis. Attendees are asked to wear face coverings.
Remembrances may be made to Meditation/Memorial Garden, Piedmont Unitarian Universalist Church, 9704 Mallard Creek Rd., Charlotte, NC, 28262, or the charity of your choice.
