Catherine Capwell Obituary

Catherine E. Stephens DeCavage Capwell, 92, of Harford, died Tuesday afternoon, March 23, 2010, at Mercy Hospital, Scranton. She was preceded in death by her first husband Adam J. DeCavage and second husband Huber Capwell.

Born Dec. 19, 1917, in Harford, she was the daughter of the late Hamlin D. and Jessie (Tingley) Stephens.

After marrying AJ, they resided in Lenoxville and operated the Lenoxville General Store. She was a member of the Lenoxville United Methodist Church until the death of AJ.

Afterwards, she married Huber and they became residents of Harford. That is when she transferred her church membership to the First Congregational Church in Harford. She made a new residence at the Harford Village Apartments and was so proud that she lived on the same premises as she went to school. Catherine made so many wonderful friends in her latest home and was grateful for all they did for her.

She was the past president of the Kingsley Civic Club, First Congregational Church Women's Society, and was a licensed beautician, avid golfer and bowler and great traveler. She would never pass up a bus trip, a ride to the mall or any event of her grandchildren or great grandchildren of whom she was so proud. God has blessed her richly and she will be missed by all she leaves behind. She was known as Nana to everyone.

She is survived by one daughter: Nancy Decker and her husband Roland of Lenoxville; nine grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and one step daughter-in-law: Millie Capwell of Clarks Summit.
She was preceded in death by one daughter: Gloria J. Doran; and one stepson: Lloyd Capwell.

The funeral was held Saturday morning, March 27, in the First Congregational Church, Harford, celebrated by Rev. William Hagenbuch, pastor, officiating.

Interment in Willow View Cemetery, Clifford.

I just read about Catherine's passing. My prayers go out to Nancy and her family. I have MANY fond childhood memories of "hanging around" and visiting the little store on the corner in Lenoxville
