Robert Robinson Obituary

Robert C. Robinson, 93, of Port Dickinson, NY passed away at his home on Monday, January 31, 2022.
Bob was Born in Syracuse, NY on May 5, 1928 to Elsie W. Smith and Clifton Smith. He was cherished, loved and raised to be the wonderful man he was in Afton, NY, by his adoptive Mom and Dad, Charles E. Robinson and Florence P. (Barr) Robinson.
Bob is survived by the love of his life, his wife of almost 66 years, Patricia Louise (Givens) Robinson; his children: Charles (Donna) Robinson, Mark (Ellen) Robinson, Kathryn (David) Benninger; four grandchildren: Bailey Benninger, Shane Robinson, Matthew Benninger and Kayla Robinson.
Bob graduated from Afton High School, Afton, NY, in 1945, He attended State University of Forestry at Syracuse, NY, and graduated with a degree in Engineering from State Tech, Binghamton NY.
Bob was drafted into the Army for two years during the Korean War. Upon his return from service, he resumed his job as an Engineer at IBM, where he worked for 33 years, before retiring in 1984. He spoke how fortunate he was to be blessed with a long retirement which enabled him to travel with his wife and spend time with his grandchildren
Bob was a true one of a kind. He had an unassuming nature that was just a cover for a sharp, dry, quick wit. A humor he could insert into any situation which was a blessing to all who knew him, and a gift that lives on in his children and grandchildren.
One of his favorite places on earth was Heart Lake, Montrose. For 52 years, he was a cherished fixture at the lake whether it was sailing his sailboat, walking, or most importantly sitting on the deck listening to the birds and watching the activity.
Always ready to lend a hand to someone in need. If it was broken, Dad could "rig up" something to fix it. With his engineer's mind, a bucket of screws, bolts and wire the contraptions he fashioned were endless, and still in use today. The friendships he made were priceless to him. Above all Bob was an incredible husband, father, and grandfather. He was a kind and gentle man and will be missed tremendously. No few words can express the love he had for his family and others or the love we have for him. He held our Lord and Savior closely in his heart, and was steadfast in his belief. He showed us how to trust in the lord, not lean on our own understanding, and that we should in all ways acknowledge the Lord so HE can direct our paths. Thank you Dad/Papa Until we meet again. We love you.
A private celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family.

Sadly, I just discovered Bob is no longer with us. We had some great conversations via email and phone from afar. His photo looks so much like Grandpa Smith. I'm so sorry, Pat and family.

Bob was a mentor for me at IBM. WE worked together and played some golf together. A true gentleman who I credit for getting my career started. From my memories of Bob, I know the family and friends are missing him greatly. Sympathies from my family to yours. So long old friend.

Pat, our deepest condolences to you and your family. You and Bob were made for each other and went together like "peas and carrots". I remember and cherish so many great memories of when the Newlon family got together even after, oh so many years. Take care, May God bless and keep you and your family.

It is hard to think of Heart Lake without Bob! Our always-cheerful next-door neighbor through the years. I picture Bob on the porch, in a boat, in the garage, fixing something, taking a walk, etc. It seems like whenever I was at the lake, Bob was there too! He added so much to the entire community and will be sorely missed. I remember Bob way back when I was in 5th grade, and we had a 4-way party-line telephone. I think the Robinson home was 2 shorts. I am very sorry for your loss, and home you can find comfort in knowing that he lived such a full life and touched so many along the way. Ian Horne, Uppsala, Sweden.
