Albert Fritz Obituary

Al Fritz was born on February 18, 1938 and raised in Baltimore, MD, the only child of Albert Sr. and Augusta Fritz. He served his country in the United States Coast Guard Reserves where he taught engine repair to his fellow guardsmen. Al was also one of the first mechanics to install a supercharger in a Studebaker, was a salesman for McCulloch Chainsaws, and won awards racing speedboats on the Chesapeake Bay. He was a model train enthusiast since childhood, and practiced carpentry often, a skill he learned from his father. He eventually moved to Annapolis, MD where he and his new wife, Joyce, built a home in Cape St. Claire and together they raised their daughter, Kerri. A proud member of the Elks and American Legion, he owned his own small engine repair business, Alco Engine, for over 40 years until retiring and moving to Greenwood, SC. Al continued to make many good friends in his later years and was diligent about getting out to see everyone. He spent several joyful hours a day building birdhouses and bird feeders in his workshop, gifting them to anyone that asked. Locals came to know him fondly as "Mr. Al". He passed away peacefully from natural causes in his home with his daughter and son-in-law at his side. Since Al was very fond of animals, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Big Oaks Rescue Farm in Hodges.
