Fred Barnes Obituary

Frederick Peter Barnes, 74, of Greenwood, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Magnolia Manor.

Born in White Plains, NY, he was a son of the late Frederick W. Barnes, Jr. and Annette Marie Corradi Barnes. Fred was a U S Navy veteran and a member of the American Legion Post 20. After serving his country he went to work for Aerospace in England for six years. He then returned to the states and received his degree in computer science from Florida Atlantic University, going on to work for IBM as a computer analyst, retiring after 20 years. He was a computer guru building computers, playing games and taking them apart. His brother said he was a bigger nerd than him. Fred enjoyed listening to classical music, especially to Bach and scuba diving in the Caribbean.

He was preceded in death by a brother, David Paul Barnes.

Surviving are a brother, Randy Barnes; niece, Carla Morgan; and sister-in-law, Carol Morgan.

A memorial service will be held at 1pm on Saturday June 29, 2024, at Oakbrook Memorial Park Mausoleum with Mr. Danny Grubbs officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.

Fred and I met at our first duty station in Maryland and were stuck with each other for the rest of our Naval "careers'. First schools and then Bremerhaven, Germany and Edzell, Scotland. I was in various bands and FP was there to take B&W pics. I'll miss him always taking the other side in an argument, usually about stereo gear.
