George Rice Obituary

George David Rice, 74, of Calhoun Falls, husband of Kathy Havens Rice, died Thursday, August 15, 2024 at his residence. He was born July 7, 1950 in Abbeville, the son of Easton M. Rice Sr. and Annis Margaret Murray Rice.

Mr. Rice led a life full of dedication and service, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey began when he joined the United States Air Force in 1968, serving his country with honor until 1972. Following his military service, Mr. Rice embarked on a successful career path, starting at Beaty Oil Co in Abbeville in 1972. In 1973, he transitioned to Harper Brothers in Greenwood, and in March 1980, he found his home at Union Carbide (Kemet) in Greenwood, SC. Mr. Rice's commitment and hard work shone brightly as he dedicated 28 years to Kemet, eventually retiring in 2008. Following retirement, he and his wife, relocated to the family farm in Calhoun Falls.

Education held a special place in his heart. Mr. Rice graduated from Calhoun Falls High School in 1968. His thirst for knowledge led him to further his studies with an Electrical Engineering degree from Piedmont Technical College in 1975 and a Business degree from Lander University in 1986.

In his leisure time, Mr. Rice cherished the time spent with his family and friends, creating treasured memories that will forever be held close to their hearts. He enjoyed genealogy and was in the process of chronicling his memoirs. Mr. Rice also enjoyed hunting, fishing and antique cars, especially Model A cars. He was a member of the Old 96 District Model A Club and Calhoun Falls United Methodist Church.

Mr. Rice is survived by his wife of 34 years, Kathy, of the home; two daughters, April Rice Prince (Patrick) of Greenwood and Michelle Worsham (Holland) of Lexington; four siblings, Footsie Rice (Linda) of Greenwood, Carolyn Rochelle of Greenwood, Annette Chapman (David) of Aiken and Rex Rice (Karen) of Liberty; four grandchildren, David Wyatt Prince, Adam Heyward Prince, Quinton Rae Worsham and Riley Dean Worsham.
