James Edward Harris

1928 - 2021

James "Jim" Edward Harris, husband of Joan Bonnette Harris, entered his heavenly home on Friday, November 19, 2021.

Born in Honea Path, SC on June 24, 1928 to the late James Edward Harris, Sr. and Nora Mattison Harris and grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. John B. Harris Sr. of Greenwood, SC and Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Mattison of Honea Path, SC. Brother of the the late Mrs. Mamsie Harris Russell of Greenwood, SC

Mr. Harris was a graduate of Greenwood High School and Clemson University. He proudly served two terms in the United States Marine Corp in 1945-1946 and again in 1950-1951. After a 34 year career with Greenwood Mills, Mr. Harris retired in 1987 as Plant Manager of Harris Plant.

He was a longtime faithful member of South Main Baptist Church where he was an active member of the Sr Men's Sunday School Class led by Dr. Richard Carter.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joan Bonnette Harris, and their four children Ruthie Harris Cantrell and husband Mark of Atlanta, GA, Mattison Ward Harris and wife Vickie of Richmond, VA, Julie Harris Harrington and husband Troy of Durham, NC, and Richard Clayton Harris and wife Danielle of Charlotte, NC. Also survived by his sister Mrs. Faye Harris Gaillard of Walhalla, SC. Mr. Harris' pride and joy are his ten grandchildren: Catherine Cantrell Hicks (Rawley), Mark Leigh Cantrell Jr. (Anne), Parker Harris Harrington (Emilee), Jackson Daniel Campbell, Patrick David Campbell, Tyler Austin Harrington, Samuel Alan Harris, Chloe Derose Campbell, Abigail Yelena Harris, and Clayton Lucas Harris and four great-grandchildren Anna Collins Hicks, Addison Cate Hicks, Reece DeWain Hicks, and Caroline Anne Cantrell.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, Nov 23 in the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Toby Frost officiating and Mr. Keith Polatty serving as vocalist. Private family graveside service will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Serving as pallbearers will be Mr. Harris' grandsons: Samuel Harris, Beau Cantrell, Parker Harrington, Tyler Harrington, Luke Harris, Patrick Campbell and Jackson Campbell.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Frank Russell, Dr. Richard Carter, Mr. James Griffin, and Mr. Butch Roberts.
