Jerry Bedenbaugh Obituary

Jerry W. Bedenbaugh, 74, husband of Jean Campbell Bedenbaugh, passed away April 18, 2016, at Self Regional Medical Center. Born July 19, 1941, in Little Mountain, SC, he was a son of the late Charlie Roy and Sadie Shealy Bedenbaugh. He was a 1959 graduate of Newberry High School and retired from the South Carolina Highway Patrol after 26 years of service. He attended Piedmont Technical College during his time as a patrolman and later became an adjunct safe driving and defensive driving instructor at the college. He served in the South Carolina National Guard and was a US Army Veteran. Mr. Bedenbaugh was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church and the Charles Poore Sunday School Class of the church and was a member and past president of the Mathews Lions Club. Surviving, in addition to his wife of 50 years, are a daughter, Charlotte and husband Grayson Amick of Chapin; a son, Jerry Wayne, Jr. and wife Heather Bedenbaugh of Charleston; a brother, George Robert and wife Elaine Bedenbaugh of Lexington; two grandchildren, Caroline Elizabeth Amick and Daniel Grayson Amick; five sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Mark United Methodist Church, with Rev. Carl Hunsucker, Rev. John Elmore and Rev. Barrett Alewine officiating. Burial with Highway Patrol Rites will be in Oakbrook Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Rob Bedenbaugh, Russell Plyler, Cal Reighley, Cary Bishop and Troy Campbell. Honorary escort will be members of the Charles Poore Sunday School Class, along with retired and active Patrolmen of the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The family will be at the home and will receive friends in the church social hall from 1 to 2:30 Thursday afternoon before the service. The body is at Blyth Funeral Home and will be placed in the church at 12:30 p.m. Thursday. Memorials may be made to St. Mark United Methodist Church, 550 Highway 72 Bypass, Greenwood, SC 29649. Mrs. Bedenbaugh,
I just got the message from my mom telling me that Mr. Bedenbaugh had passed away. I am so sorry to hear of this and please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you. My heart goes out to Wayne and Charlotte as well for the loss of a great father. God, your friends and family will help carry you through this time when you feel you cannot stand alone. Mr. Bedenbaugh was a wonderful man and I am thankful I had the privilege to know him.
