John Stanchick Obituary

John Stanchick, 87, formerly of Minersville, passed away Wednesday morning at Luther Ridge.

Born in Minersville, he was a son of the late Ralph and Nellie Zenkuite Stanchick.

He attended Minersville schools and worked for the former Philips Van Heusen, as well as the Schuylkill County Housing Authority, retiring in 1999.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served as a medic in the Philippines.

John was a member of the former St. Francis of Assisi Church, Minersville. He enjoyed collecting records, having accumulated a collection of more than 3,000 albums. He was also a coin and stamp collector.

Preceding him in death were five brothers, Edward, William, Raymond, George and Charles Stanchick; and two sisters, Julie Devlin and Alice Klinger.

Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Schoener, to whom he was married for 60 years; a son, David Stanchick (Cathy), Erie; two grandsons, Kyle Carlson (Erin), Pittsburgh, and Matthew Carlson (Adriana), Erie; a great-grandson, Wyatt Carlson, Erie; nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 7 p.m. Friday and from 6 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Saturday at Dutcavich Funeral Home, 200 Sunbury St., Minersville. Interment will be in Mount Peace Cemetery. The family prefers remembrances to the Hillside SPCA. Visit www.dutcavich.com.

David, I was deeply sorry to read of your Father's passing. He was a good friend to my mother when she was so ill. He brought her home-made soup and made her smile. A kind a gentle man with a sharp mind and a great sense of humor. He touched so many in our little town. He will be missed.
