Mary Sauer Obituary
Born May 11th, 1922, in Tralee, Co Kerry, Ireland to Thomas and Julia Harty. She was the 3rd youngest of 11 children.
Mary graduated from the Pharmaceutical College in Dublin, Ireland. She worked as a pharmacist in Dublin and Tralee. In 1953 Mary moved to Montreal, Canada and worked for the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce.
Mary married Kurt Sauer in 1955, and they moved to New York in 1957. In 1967 Mary became a naturalized US Citizen after the birth of their daughter Susan. Mary enjoyed volunteer work with the Girl Scouts and working with her husband in his Optical business.
In 1995, Mary and Kurt retired and moved to South Carolina. Residing in Little River, SC and then moving to Wesley Commons in Greenwood, SC in 2002. She was a parishioner at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Greenwood.
Mary was always ready with a joke, riddle, or an Irish saying to brighten up the day! Sláinte!
Surviving are Kurt, her husband of 68 years, and daughter Susan, both of Lexington SC. Sister-in-Law Sally Harty of Dublin, Ireland, and many nieces and nephews.
Mary is predeceased by her parents, and 10 siblings (Bridget, Thomas, Mary, Elizabeth, Maurice, Colm, Roderick, Kathleen, Nora, Fionan).
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 AM Tuesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Francisco Oñate-Vargas officiating. Internment at Our Lady of Lourdes columbarium to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave. Greenwood, SC 29646.
