1954 - 2024

Steve Alvie Jackson, a beloved member of the Abbeville community and owner of Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home,

passed away Sunday, February 4, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.

Steve was born on March 30, 1954, in Hartsville, South Carolina, to his loving parents Alvie and Betty Jean Funderburk Jackson. From a young age, Steve showed great talent both on and off the sports fields. He graduated from Camden High School in 1972, where he excelled in football and baseball. It was during this time that he met his high school sweetheart, Carol Ann Sheorn. Their love story blossomed and they remained inseparable throughout their lives. Following high school, Steve pursued his passion for helping others by attending Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science. After graduating, he worked for several funeral homes and in 2002 established the Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home in Abbeville. For over 22 years, Steve devoted himself to providing exceptional care and support to grieving families in their most difficult times. He was known for his professionalism, compassion, and dedication to serving others. He was a member of the South Carolina Funeral Director's Association and a former member of the Piedmont Technical College Advisory Board of Mortuary Science.

Steve was deeply involved in various community organizations and activities. He was an ardent supporter of the Abbeville Panthers and served on the booster club. His devotion to sports extended beyond just football and baseball; he was also a former president of the Abbeville Recreation Department and past president of the Abbeville Youth Association. Steve's dedication to his community extended even further as he served as a board member of First Citizens Bank. Through this role, he contributed to the economic well-being of the area he cherished so dearly. Beyond finance and athletics, Steve was actively involved in charitable work as a member of Abbeville Rotary where he is a past president and is a Paul Harris fellow. He was a mason with the Clinton Lodge#3 AFM, a Shriner and member of the Hejaz Shrine Temple.

A faithful member of Main Street United Methodist Church, Steve embodied the values of love and service throughout his life. He held various leadership positions within the church community, including past president of the Pastor Parish Committee. His commitment to his faith and church family was unwavering, leaving a lasting impact on those who were fortunate to know him.

While Steve's professional accomplishments and community involvement are impressive, he always prioritized his family. He was a loving husband to Carol, his wife of 47 years, and a dedicated father to their children and grandchildren that brought immeasurable joy to his life. He especially enjoyed and followed his children and grandchildren in sports and activities, which he rarely missed. In his leisure time, Steve enjoyed embarking on family trips that created cherished memories for generations. He also had a fondness for shagging, oysters and cold Miller Lite, which often accompanied laughs and stories shared with loved ones. As an avid Clemson Tigers fan, he could always be found enthusiastically cheering on his team and would rarely miss a game. Steve's warm presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife Carol Sheorn Jackson and his children Brad Jackson (Christi), Kelly Jackson, and Brooks Jackson (Jennifer), he is survived by his grandchildren Bryce Jackson (McKenna Bishop), Wyatt Pickens, Tait Jackson, Sydney Jackson, Brantlee Jackson, and Callie Jackson; and a sister, Lynn Thompson. Along with several close family friends whom he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Natalianne Jackson and sister Debbie Jackson.

Services will be held at 2 PM Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Main Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Brandon Fulmer and Rev. Johnny Waller officiating. Burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Steve Sutherland, Darren Lewis, Mark Smith, Barry Jacks, Jacob Thommason and Josh Baughman.

Honorary escorts will be Ken Reece, Barry Creswell, and the employees of Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home Chapel Wednesday February 7, 2024, from 2 PM until 4 PM and from 6 PM until 8PM.
