William Devore Obituary

William Barry Devore, 63, of Donalds, SC, died July 23, 2025 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Tanya McCombs Devore. Born in Greenwood, SC, he was the son of the late John Newton and Billie Jean Andrews Devore.

Barry was a proud graduate of Dixie High School, Class of 1979, and Lander University, Class of 1983. He dedicated many years of his career to public service as the Finance Director for Abbeville County, a role he cherished from October 2006 until his retirement in April 2024.

A member of Greenville Presbyterian Church, Barry was known for his passion for working on cars, particularly his cherished antique vehicles. He had a unique appreciation for cars that were niche and distinctive, taking great pride in his ability to repair and maintain them. In addition to his love for cars, Barry found joy in gardening-a hobby that reminded him of cherished family moments from his childhood. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of daily life, often referring to it as "piddling around," and took delight in keeping himself busy with various tasks.

Traveling brought Barry a special kind of peace, especially when shared with his wife and family in their recently purchased RV. He looked forward to exploring the United States together in retirement.

Above all, Barry treasured the time spent with his family, particularly enjoying working in the yard alongside Tanya. He had a profound love for music, always able to find the right song for any moment. Barry's sharp wit and playful sarcasm brought laughter and joy to those around him, creating lasting memories filled with happiness and love. He will be remembered for his humor, kindness, and the meaningful ways he supported his loved ones.

Barry is survived by his devoted wife, Tanya, with whom he shared 38 wonderful years; his son, Jake Devore; his daughters, Luci Devore and Isabel Devore; his brother, Robert Devore; and his sister, Brenda Devore Campbell.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Harris Funeral Home. A funeral service honoring Barry's life will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 4:00 PM at Greenville Presbyterian Church, located at 205 Greenville Church Rd, Donalds, SC 29638. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family is at the home in Donalds.
