Conner McCain Obituary

Conner D. McCain 80, Shelby County, died January 1, 2007 in Beech Grove. He was a life-long farmer in Hendricks Township, Shelby County. He was born on May 6, 1926 near Bengal, IN. After graduating from Franklin (IN) High School in 1944, he joined the Navy, serving for two years during WWII. After the war, he began farming, an occupation he truly enjoyed. Mr. McCain served on the Second Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Board for 36 years and was a former Shelby County Councilman. He was a member of the Honda Gold Wing Club. Mr. McCain was an active member of the Bengal Christian Church where he served as an elder and former treasurer. He also was a former treasurer of the Soil & Water Conservation Board. Mr. McCain is survived by wife, Reba J. (Haehl) McCain, whom he married on June 23, 1946; daughters, Jean Ann (Bob) Edney of Oklahoma City, OK, and Laura Joy (Rex) Patterson of Saline, MI; sons, James Paul (Sara) McCain of Franklin, IN, and Michael Charles (Dale Ann) McCain of Edinburgh, IN; eleven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by father, Paul McCain; mother, Treca McCain; sisters, Elnora Lawrence and Waneta Barlow; brother, Merrill "Jack" McCain; and son, Richard Duane McCain. A sister also died at birth. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 5 at Bengal Christian Church . Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 4 at Freeman Family Funeral Home, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, IN, and one hour prior to service on Friday. Interment will be in 2nd Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bengal Christian Church.
