Cornelia Summers Obituary
Indianapolis - Cornelia "Connie" R. Summers, 92, passed away March 4, 2018 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was born December 28, 1925 in Gallatin, Tennessee to the late Charlie and Hattie M. Scruggs Smallwood. Connie married Donald L. Summers, April 12, 1948 and was married for 40 years. Donald preceded her in death March 18, 1988. She then met Duane Lambert and enjoyed his companionship for 25 years until he preceded her in death.
Connie was employed in the records department at RCA, cosmetic sales at H. P. Wasson Co., Byers and Hessler Floor Covering, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and RJE Business Interiors where everyone knew her as "Aunt Connie". She was a member of Old Bethel United Methodist Church and American Business Women's Association. Connie was a lifelong bowler, traveler, especially loved cooking for others, dancing, trips to the casino, and cherished family gatherings. Connie never knew a stranger and always made sure everyone felt extra loved and included. Her loving spirit was automatic and natural and affected every life she touched.
Visitation will be held Saturday, March 10, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E. Washington St.
Connie is survived by her loving daughters, Vicki L. Summers Hunt and Sharon L. Summers Giles; four grandchildren, Christopher N. Hunt (Abby), Benjamin D. Hunt (Amy Smith), Megan D. Giles and Troy A. Giles; three great-grandchildren, Elliot, Oliver, and Aaron Hunt and many loving and devoted nieces and nephews. Her son, Gary L. Summers; two brothers, Edward and Charles Smallwood; and three sisters, Earlene Lowry, Juanita Drake and Alma Roberts, preceded her in death..
