Dale Edward Hume
passed away on Dec. 12, 2012 following a valiant three-month battle with cancer. He was born in Muncie, Ind. in 1940 to the late Donald D. and Marguerite (Elliott) Hume. Dale graduated from Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis in 1958, and earned a bachelor's degree from the Indiana University School of Business in 1963. After working for General Motors and Sentry Insurance, he was an insurance agent with Gregory & Appel Insurance in Indianapolis for 29 years. He retired from Gregory & Appel in 2009 as vice president of commercial insurance. Dale was an avid antique collector, photographer, and genealogist. He was fond of reading American history and taking his family on trips to historic sites. In recent years he enjoyed restoring antique boat motors and joined the Michiana Outboard Motoring Chapter of the Antique Outboard Motor Club. Dale is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Ann (Moore) Hume; their daughter Susan, son, Mark; daughter-in-law, Denise; and grandchildren, Elizabeth and Wyatt. Visitation will be Tues., Dec. 18 at Crown Hill Funeral Home from 3pm to 7pm. Services will be held at Crown Hill Funeral Home Wed., Dec. 19 at noon. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Haven Youth Center, 39 E. Jackson St., Martinsville, IN 46151.

Although I never had the pleasure of meeting Dale, I most certainly know the character of this man as it shows in his son Mark. May God hold you in the palm of his hand until we meet one day.
