Dorothy W. Hoekstra

Dorothy W. Hoekstra 95, Indianapolis, passed away July 18, 2009 in the Retreat Hospital in Richmond, VA, following a stroke. Dorothy was born in Rosedale, Indiana on November 25, 1913. She was the wife of Rev. Raymond G. Hoekstra, pastor of Calvary Tabernacle (1937-1949); as the "First Lady" of Calvary Tabernacle during the 1930's and 1940's and a featured soloist in the choir, Dorothy delighted radio audiences and Calvary congregants with her glorious alto voice. Dorothy is survived by three children, Ray Hoekstra of Seattle, Bob Hoekstra of Irvine, CA and Dorothy Holland of Richmond, VA; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and countless friends who will miss her beautiful smile and generous spirit. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 30 in Mt. Vernon Mausoleum Chapel in Washington Park East Cemetery. Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center - Washington Park East is handling the arrangements.
