Floyd Matthews Obituary

Rev. Floyd Matthews

Indianapois - 91, a lifelong resident of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully at his home and went to be with his Lord and Savior, June 3, 2021. He was born April 17, 1930, to the late William Henry and Lillian Bayless Via Matthews. Floyd was a 1949 graduate of Arsenal Tech High School, and received his B.A. and M.A. Degree from Indiana Bible College. Floyd proudly served his country in the U. S. Navy.

He married Millie Topuzu in 1953 and she preceded in death in 1993. He then married Dorene Hager, October 30, 1993. Floyd worked for many years for Coffey Construction in Noblesville. Rev. Matthews founded Southwest Apostolic Church on S. Roena St. in 1994 and was pastor until his retirement in 2015. He was a licensed minister for the United Pentecostal Church, Int.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 8, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Southwest Apostolic Church, 3161 S. Roena Street, Indianapolis. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 12:00 noon at the church.

Floyd is survived by his loving wife, Dorene Matthews; daughters, Brenda D. Hale, Sharon L. Reynolds and Cynthia L. Eltermann; sons, Floyd E. Matthews Jr., Samuel Matthews and Jason Ingram (Kelley); 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by brothers, Robert E. Matthews and William H. Matthews; and sisters, Dorothy Hooks and Mary Burroughs.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Southwest Apostolic Church.
