Ilene Childers

Ilene Childers 88, of Sheridan, passed away Monday, March 6, 2006 at her home. She was born July 27, 1917 to the late Melvin O. & Hazel (Merchant) Mumford. She was a 1935 graduate of Sheridan H.S. Ilene was a homemaker who previously worked at Wilson's Milk Co. of Sheridan and Pittman Moore of Zionsville. She was a member of Terhune United Methodist Church where she was a church organist for more than 60 years and a member of the Rebehak Lodge. She enjoyed attending Sheridan H.S. Sporting events and was named fan of the year in 1988. Ilene lived in her home in rural Sheridan until the time of her death on Monday, March 6, 2006. She was forever grateful for the undying love and support of her family that made this possible. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2006 at Kercheval Funeral Home, Sheridan, with calling there 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 10, 2006. Reverend Frank Ciampa will officiate services. Interment will be in Spencer Cemetery, Sheridan. Ilene was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Childers on July 30, 1983, whom she married February 26, 1936; daughter, Elizabeth Shelburne; 1 sister and 1 brother. She is survived by 4 daughters: Marie Sordon, Jane (Joe) Kellam, Sandy Childers and Karen (Steve) Walden-Pitts all of Sheridan; 6 grandchildren: Mike Shelburne, Tom Shelburne, Bill Kellam, Andrea (Kellam) Palmer, Liberty (Walden) Williams and Kristy (Walden) Smith; and 5 great-grandchildren: Casey & Courtney Shelburne, Nixon & Berkley Williams and Chaney Smith.
