Jacob Horvath Obituary

Jacob (Britney) Whitney Horvath

25, of Carmel, unexpectedly ended her own life on August 24, 2017 in Healy, Alaska just outside Denali National Park. Jake (Britney) was a free spirit, an adventurer and a seeker.  She loved music and animals, especially dogs. The driving forces in Jake's (Britney's) life were discovering and becoming her truest and most authentic self. Jake (Britney) felt deeply, loved fiercely, laughed loudly, danced joyfully and dreamed heartbreakingly big. Wise and compassionate beyond her years, Jake (Britney) believed that "these are times when we must stand together in defense of love and equality or risk losing both."

Jake (Britney) graduated from Midwest Academy (Carmel, IN) and in 2016 earned a Bachelor's degree from Marian University (Indianapolis). After living and working in New York City, in June 2017 Jake (Britney) left the financial district for the fish processing plants of Whittier, Alaska (pop. 214). Her time in Alaska, a place of savage beauty, allowed Jake (Britney) to renew her spiritual connection to nature and deepen her relationship to the sacred feminine. Gentle and kind, Jake (Britney) looked at the world and saw not what it is but what it could be.

Survivors include her bereaved mother Lisa Horvath (Denver); aunt Kimberly Hall (Carmel); uncle Andrew Horvath (Denver); and nephews Carson and Cody Hall (Carmel) and Maxime Horvath (Denver). Jake (Britney) was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents John and Susan Horvath (Carmel); and her great-great-aunt Kathleen McNamara and companion Arline Burns (Myrtle Beach, SC).

Those wishing to make donations are directed to The Trevor Project, a 24-hour suicide hotline for LGBTQ youth, and to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

It's hard to believe how long it's been since Jake left, he crosses my mind every so often. When I go for walks anywhere patches of clovers always reminds me of him and how much time we would spend looking for some luck. I still miss the conversations and just having his company around.

I am so sorry to hear about Jacob/Britney's death. I knew him as Jacob at Marian, as a student in my Humanities class. I enjoyed having him in discussion, too. I am so sorry. What a deep loss this is.

You'll be missed by me and my family, I'm glad we got to meet while you were here in whittier. You were such a kind and caring person and I'll miss the conversations we had. And the time spent hanging out wether it be watching tv shows or picking four leaf clovers out of patches.
