I want to confirm that following NBA playoffs is just not the same without being able to review them with Jim. I'd also love to know his take on the week's news. Maybe this is silly, but I miss Jim's voice just as much as I thought I would.

It was months after, I heard of Jim's passing I met him through a unique radio show I had. He called and identified "Obscure cut of the day" and won a pizza. From there we hung out and always talked music or basketball. He was very knowledgeable with both and had big impact with young basketball players. He had a bizarre sense of humor like mine and a gravelly voice and laugh...which I'll remember. I also worked with him in the pharmaceutical industry....lots and lots of "windshield time". My condolences to his children and friends.

It is with a heavy heart that I write this to Jim's loved ones and friends. I met Jim when I was just 15. He introduced me to some of the greatest musicians and philosophers of all time. We camped and hiked with friends in the woods of Indiana to the Stone Quarries. He was someone I looked up to and admired. We also experienced some painful times...the loss of friends as well as our own personal trials. Jim and I last spoke on Jan. 8th, two days after his birthday. We talked about our faith, travels, loves and especially our children. We had planned to get together in August when I will be in Indy. It is a bittersweet blessing that he could leave this world peacefully. He will be missed but never forgotten!
My name has changed but I will always be Ruthie Ray to Jim!

My condolences to the Kasberg family especially to my acquaintances Colely "Curious George" , Jamie , Terren and Diana . I met Jimmie in the late eighties when he was the Indiana Editor of The Hoop Scoop Boys Basketball National Publication.. Jim was passionate in his Love for the game of Basketball and for granting student athletes exposure to college scholarship granting basketball programs via his player rankings and news reports. I was most impressed with his willingness to take on the " Indiana Good Ole Boys Basketball Network" by purely ranking the players by ability and not by how many accolades they earned in church or the school choir.. Besides his writings and rankings , Jim had a talent for organizing inner city summer teams that no one else dared to due to fear or lack of funding. Jim was the team architect of the Spiece multi million dollar initial Gym Rats Travelling Teams as a Volunteer when Gym Rats Founder Bill Hensley asked him to organize teams of the best Indiana talent.. Many teams like Indiana Elite and The Fieldhouse successfully modeled Kasberg's Grassroots Program into their current successful ventures .. Jimmy had many funny stories to tell within his vibrant personality but I always enjoyed his hilarious interpretation of the movie " Frankie The Fly" and his opinion why Bob Knight attended NIKE Camp one week in the nineties.. Kasberg brought the college basketball world to laughter when he wrote that Coach Knight who hated recruiting travel but loved hunting only attended NIKE Camp because there was a Knife and Gun Show just down the street!! I pray that Jimmy's children and Jim's beloved Diana find Peace in the fact that Jim is finally in a better place via the same Peace Train Jim and I talked about when we mutually had lost family and friends .. I Thank God I Was Blessed and A Better Person for knowing Jim Kasberg !!

RIP My Brother,

Jim had just returned to visit Wounded Knee in South Dakota, where he experienced a life-changing event in 1973. They proceeded to Standing Rock to learn, report, and represent. Jim was engaged in an intense period of spiritual inquiry when death came calling. I'm left with no one to share memories of HS basketball, the first Pacer years, and all the rest. Much as he loved the game, he loved the young players more. Jim discovered young talent, and helped his kids in all aspects of their lives. So much to say. But suffice it to say that Jim Kasberg was one of a kind, the self-titled Master of Space and Time. I'll miss him something fierce
