James Kramer Short, 40, Indianapolis, passed away Monday, January 26, 2004. Jim was a compassionate and talented Intensivist with a gift for counseling the families of critically ill patients and a passion for Intensive Care Medicine. He will be remembered as a loving husband and father. His sense of humor brightened the days and brought a smile to his friends and those who worked with him. He was a "kid at heart." His children will remember his generous and loving example. Jim was a strength and support to his wife and family. He touched the lives of many and will be terribly missed. He was born January 25, 1964 in Evansville, IN to Fred and Margaret "Peggy" Short. He graduated from Memorial High School, where he was a member of the soccer teams that won three state championships. He went on to play soccer at the University of Evansville, where he graduated summa cum laude in 1986. He graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1990, and completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI. He completed a Pulmonary Intensive Care Fellowship at IU School of Medicine, and obtained three board certifications (Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine and Intensive Care Medicine.) Jim was a talented physician with Indiana Internal Medicine Consultants.Dr. Short was a member of numerous medical societies, including the American Thoracic Society, American Medical Association, and Indiana State Medical Association. He and his family attend East 91st Street Christian Church.Jim is survived by his wife, Dr. Kimberly Short (formerly Kimberly Hankins of Evansville); their children: Austin James, Jacob Patrick, Gillian Marie and Jessilyn Kimberly Short; his mother, Margaret "Peggy" Short and his brothers, Richard Short of Evansville, Stephen Short of Houston, and Paul Short of Evansville.Friends may visit the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 30 at Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center - Lawrence. A Celebration of his life will be held Saturday, January 31 at 10 a.m. at Good Shepherd Chapel at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 9700 Allisonville Road, Indpls., IN 46250. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the International House of Prayer, at 6103 Bannister Court, Indpls., IN 46236, an organization that was very special to him.
