Jeffrey Goldman Obituary
Jeffrey Goldman Pediatric Neuro-Oncologist 65, of Indianapolis, died Friday, February 3rd at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. His death resulting from cancer was announced by his brother, Michael Goldman. Jeffrey was born in Cincinnati, OH September 23, 1940. He received his AB degree from Harvard in 1962 and went on to earn a law degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Law. He practiced law for 5 years, serving as legal counsel for the Atomic Energy Commission for 2 years. Dr. Goldman then went on to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine where he received his M.D. degree in 1974. He trained in Internal Medicine at the Jewish Hospital of Cincinnati and then trained in Pediatrics at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati where he also served as Chief Resident. Dr. Goldman practiced general pediatrics for the next 8 years before going on to a Fellowship in Pediatric Hematology & Oncology at the Riley Hospital for Children (1986-89). He was appointed Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1989 and treated children with all forms of cancer for the rest of his professional career until only a few weeks before his death. Dr. Goldman became an Associate Professor of Pediatrics in 1996 and took on the directorship of the Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Program in 1999. His gentle caring manner has had an impact on countless children and he will be remembered for the positive influence that he had on families, and colleagues alike. His dedication and rigorous approach to treating childhood cancer has influenced the medical students, residents and fellows who have benefited from his teaching over his many years of service to medicine. Dr. Goldman truly made a difference in our world that will be felt in the children he treated and doctors he has helped train for years to come. Dr. Goldman is survived by his wife, Rebecca Anne; two children, Jason and Laurie Goldman; sisters, Betsy Resler, Sally Goldman and Nancy Boynton; and his brother, Michael Goldman. A memorial service will be held at the Riley Hospital for Children, 702 Barnhill Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46202; in the Riley Outpatient Center, Ruth Lilly Auditorium on the lower level on Thursday, February 9th at 5:00 p.m. A second memorial service will be held on Friday, February 10th at 11:00 a.m. at the Weil Funeral Home (513-469-9345) 8350 Cornell Rd. Cincinnati, OH; with a reception to follow.
