I have met many people in my life. Many special people. Doc left a mark. He was very special. He was my doctor and soon Marcia and he became friends. If you knew him, you know what I mean by special. He knew his stuff, as any MD should, but he had a gift. Another level. He knew a lot about everything. There was an inner light that showed in everything he did. I will miss my friend. A friend I never knew was missing until I met him. That hole will never be filled. God Bless you John, and give my love to Marcia and Tom. See you all when I get there. Love Tammy

Dear Felix and Barker family,

I remember my classmate John Barker as kind, humble, friendly, honest and so bright. I will not forget his smile or his humor, his humility or his gentleness. We will have our 50th high school class reunion in 2019 and we will toast to his memory. At this time I simply want to offer my condolences and express my gratefulness for his life and friendship.

John, you were greatly loved and appreciated. You were always willing to listen and you cared about the person and not just the ailment. We were your patients for 41 years and your friends for just as long. We loved you and Marcia and all you stood for. It was always good to hear about your plans and what was going on in your life. We loved listening to the stories you told. I know the angels are singing because you've come home. Earth was a much better place, especially the east side of Indianapolis, just for you having been here. May God be with your children and your brother's family as they go through this difficult time. Our lives have been enriched because we knew you. I wish the world had more people like you.

Having worked for Dr Barker over 20 yrs, I know how many lives he touched. Very seldom did we miss a day we did not communicate. My husband and I spent countless hours together. Going to the fair, Indian games, dinner and lunches and game nights. One comment he made to me in his last days is that he hoped all of his patients found a physician that loved them as much as he did. I feel sure that could never happen. He was the smartest, best, caring person, physician and friend He also took care of my family. We know he was anxious to see Marcia again and is now with her. He has taken a part of our heart that will never be replaced. Rest In Peace. I will forever remember you.

I never met Dr Barker but I had the pleasure of working with his daughter Kelley Boyd. Just from knowing Kelley I knew he was a wonderful and exceptional man. What sticks out so much in my memory is joking with Kelley on her birthday. Although living in the same house together he would always call her early in the morning hour on her birthday just so he could be the first one to wish his daughter a Happy Birthday! Every child should be so blessed to have a father such as Kelley's! What a great man he must have been. Kelley you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers! God bless Dr Barker and receive him in open arms in heaven!

I delivered Dr Barkers mail for several years and became closer to him after he was widowed. He was very kind, and I could see how devoted he was to his patients. I tried in my wa to help him with his situation but I could tell it was becoming more than he could handle. I will miss his candid no nonsense manner I know his patients will too.

Dr. Barker was a wonderful doctor and a wonderful man. Not only would we talk about my health on my appointments but we would often talk about my Mustang and it's problems. I hope he is up there in heaven with Marcia who was also a beautiful human being. My heart goes out to all of his family who I know are missing him greatly... my heart is heavy today as I just found out this news.

John Barker was a devoted and compassionate physician. He lived up to the Hippocratic Oath to the end. He was an advocate for his patients and remained available to them--even after he himself had encountered some health problems. He will be sorely missed at Community and in his beloved Irvington.

Dr. Barker was a great and kind person. A roll model to say the least, I will really miss my friend and his wisdom. I know in my heart God has a special place for him in heaven to always look over us. It is going to be very different without having him around for a lot of us although we move forward in life we will never forget the footprint he left in our hearts. God Bless you Dr. Barker until we see you again. Luv u man.

John will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Having held him when he was just a premie in 1951 when his mom brought him home it deeply saddens me to hear of his death at such an early age.

May God be with your family at this difficult time.
