Joseph Mark Denton
82, died peacefully on Thursday, November 17, 2011, at Community Hospital South. He was born May 16, 1929, in Marion, Indiana, to the late Mark and Lura Denton. He graduated from Marion High School in 1947. On September 9, 1955, he married Alberta (Orr) who preceded him in passing in July, 2009.
Joe was a veteran of the Korean War, serving his country in the United States Navy from 1947 through 1952 as a Machinist's Mate, Third Class. His tour of duty took him to ports around the world while serving on the USS Mattaponi and USS Valley Forge.
After his honorable discharge, he attended Lain Drafting College graduating with an Industrial Technology degree. He started working at Ransburg Corporation and retired from Union Carbide as Supervisor of Design and Drafting. Using his interest in computers, he implemented Union Carbide's first electronic drafting system.
Joe is survived by his son Steven (Anne) Hoffman, Loudon, TN, daughter Melissa (Pat) Gureski, and grandson Aaron, Franklin, IN. Dearest to his heart, he left behind his two cats, Ollie and Tessie. He lived his last two years with his daughter enjoying life in the country.
He was touched by many special friends in his life. Thanks to the Tuesday afternoon card players at Windslow Crossing for their laughter and friendship; to special family members Gene Trueblood and Jill Plummer for their support and respite care; to Kathleen Van Cleave and Senior Helpers for their care and companionship during the past few months; to Dr. Mark Jones at Indiana Heart Physicians for his kindness and support; to the Hospice team, nurses and especially those in Short-Stay for their kind and compassionate care at Community Hospital South.
Last, but most important, to Dr. Mindaugas Zekonis for his care and compassion. As difficult as it was, our family takes comfort knowing what a devoted, loving doctor and friend he was to our father. We are fortunate to have and will always hold, a special place in our hearts for him.
