Joseph Eaton Obituary

Joseph "Joe" Stephan Eaton

April 22, 1952 - February 26, 2020

Joe was born on April 22, 1952 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Edward J. and Catherine Mae (Cox) Eaton. He passed away on February 26, 2020 after a short courageous battle with skin cancer. Joe was not a quitter but he knew this was a battle for his life. Joe moved to Texas in 1982. He married his wife Ruth Swierc on March 15, 1986.

He is survived by his love of 33 years, Ruthie; son Jed (Catherine) of Knoxville, TN; Daughters- Kadi (Kyle) Abbott, and Sara (Collin) Young of San Antonio, TX; Grandchildren, Parker and Jack Eaton, Baby Abbott, and "The Boys" Mason, Carter & Easton Moy; Siblings Mike (JoEllen) Eaton; Marlene (Gene) Reed; Kathy (John) Phillips; Patty (Jerry) Schnarr; John (Karen) Eaton; 14 wonderful In-laws', numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, all whom he loved and cared for deeply. Lifelong childhood friend Mark Hidinger. But most importantly his beloved dog Chewy. And of course, all the fish that "got away". He was welcomed into Heaven by his younger brother, Daniel T. Eaton 6 of 7.

Joe was a carpenter by trade and had an associate's degrees in Construction Technology and Business Administration as well as a 4-year carpenter apprenticeship. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Jointers, Local 60 in Indianapolis, IN. He started Eaton Contracting 1n 1989. His most memorable and rewarding projects include Morgan's Wonderland and The Pax Christi Chapel and Retreat Center.

Joe was a dedicated member of the San Antonio Chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) for over 25 years. He served as Banquet Chairman for 2 years and Ticket Sales Chairman for the past 10 years.

Joe loved the outdoors and enjoyed a long day of fishing followed by a martini at the cabin with the Baffin Bay Boys.

The family would like to thank the numerous wonderful doctors, nurses and special angels that took great care of Joe.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Joe's memory to the Skin Cancer Foundation. The family will receive visitors at Porter Loring Mortuary North on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 from 4:00-7:00 p.m.

For the past 57 years, Joe has been my closest friend, confidant, advisor and fishing buddy. But more importantly... My Brother. We have laughed, cried, loved, fished, drank, explored, partied, got into trouble and fished some more! Joe was truly a man of the highest integrity and morals. Joe always believed any job worth doing, was a job worth doing well! And he used this same approach throughout his life... with his family and friends. He could be tough at times, (which his success bears out) but from my experience, Joe was truly a giving, concerned and gracious person to all that knew him. I will miss my brother dearly and our monthly random conversations. And there will always be a void in my heart from his passing. Joe, I know you're at peace now. So rest my friend, and know we'll see each other again... with a crown in one hand and a fishing pole in the other!! To Ruthie, Kadi, Sara, Jed and my entire Eaton Family, my deepest condolences for your loss. I hope that everyone carries the wonderful shared memories Joe left us all in their hearts forever.

My sympathies to the family. Joe gave my small business an opportunity to work with his company on several projects. Rest in Peace.

Very sorry to learn about Joe's passing. A high school buddy of the highest degree. We spent lots of time as kids do contemplating life and dreaming of the future together. He was always about doing and having the best for himself and his family. He was a hard worker at an early age with high expectations. I am sure it's no surprise to anyone who knew him that he was driven for success. Of course we also did lots of fishing together as kids and I learned almost everything about the sport from his father, Ed.

My wife, Carol and I extend our thoughts and prayers to Joe's entire family. It's way too soon to lose this blessing in your lives. May he Rest In Peace.

Ruthie, I have fond memories of the three of us meeting at CFC those many years ago. I enjoyed learning and working with Joe, seeing him go the extra mile, doing what others would not or coming up with ways no one thought of to make a great project, fishing at the floating house in the bay, martinis at your house to name few great memories.

Blessings to you and the family and the road ahead...

Joe was a wonderful person to work with. He was very driven to find a way to complete his projects and was always willing to grant whatever easements were necessary to help move things along. He didnt mind helping his neighbors receive power in the process. He was a pleasure to work with and I enjoyed working with him on his projects. I see we shared the same birthday so maybe thats why we got along so well! He will be missed by the CPS Energy Development groups and his family and friends. I know he is making someone smile and laugh in heaven right now. Prayers for his loved ones.
