Keith Fiedler Obituary

Keith Allen Fiedler

Noblesville - Keith Allen Fiedler, 66, Noblesville, peacefully answered God's call for an accomplished teacher and coach on June 9, 2018. But he did not pass before leaving behind a living memorial in the memories of family, friends, colleagues and thousands of students and players during his 40-year career at Carmel High School. Keith's proudest achievement was his family, wife of 39 years, Jan, daughter, Logan Bennett (Michael), son, Derek (Rachel), and granddaughter Cameron. Keith was the son of the late Kenneth Fiedler and brother of the late Mike Fiedler (Debra). He is also survived by his mother, Loretta Unsicker (Ted), brothers Rick (Joyce) and Kevin (Angie). Although defeated by an aggressive thyroid cancer, which claimed him in less than five weeks, his memory and competitive spirit will live on in those whose classroom and athletic lives were touched by him during his four-decade career in education. The inspiration for that career began at Woodlan High School and then Franklin College where he excelled as a winning football, baseball and track player, and was a winner of the Wil B. Nelp Mental Attitude Award. He continued as a football, gymnastics, track and baseball coach at Carmel High School. His teaching and coaching journey included induction into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame as both a player and coach. He was a Past President of the Indiana High School Football Coaches' Association. A celebration of his life will be held at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Westfield on Saturday, June 23, 2018 with calling from 10 AM -12 PM and 1-4 PM followed by a memorial service at 4:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Carmel Football Alumni Club or Prime Life Enrichment Senior Citizens Center for Hamilton County. Condolences may be shared online at www.neptunesociety.com/obituaries.

Jan, Logan, & Derek,
I am so appreciative to have coached at Carmel HS for four years and being touched during that time by Keith, aka Coach Fields, in so many ways. He is leaving you all too early, and that's so sad. But wow, did he leave a legacy and touch so many people's lives! - mine included. I know how much you (already) will miss him, but wow you were blessed of so many years with one caring, loving, and "real" person. My condolences but also my kudos to a great life well-lived. Fields made such an impression on so many lives.

Dear Jan and Family, I wanted to extend my deepest condolences for the loss of such a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, friend, teacher and coach. Mr. Fiedler (I never could call him Keith even after all these years) was my Zoology teacher and my Gymnastic Coach from 1980-1983. He had such a huge impact on my life. I wasn't the greatest gymnast but he always made sure to let me know I was an important part of the team even though I wasn't the most accomplished team member. He made my days at Carmel High School so memorable. He left a lasting impression on everyone who had the gift of crossing his path. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you and I wish you comfort and peace during this difficult time.

Sincerely,

Siobhan Pike Roark

Myself and all of my family were devastated to hear of Coach Fiedler's passing!!! He was a man among men, a dedicated coach, a mentor, an inspiration and role model to many young people, and a great friend! Keith went over and beyond to help us with funeral arrangements and support when our beloved Casey (Clark), my husband and a fellow CHS coach, passed! I know that he is up there with Casey and all of the coaches, friends and family that have passed before him and they are putting together a football team that will be unbeatable!! Our hearts and prayers go out to Jan, the kids and all of his family!!

I went to Woodlan with Keith. He was a good man and it is sad to see him go. My condolences for the family.

I am one of Keith's and Jan's many friends from Franklin College. I was FC's announcer when Keith played football and enjoyed a wonderful friendship with him in the many years since graduation. He was always first class and a great person who thought of others before himself. He will be sorely missed by many and will always be a Grizzly and a Greyhound!

Sorry you left us so early Keith. You have always been one of the "good guys" as long as I knew you. I have followed your great career from a distance after we both left college. I just know you changed many young lives as a coach of young people and will live on as a model of what a leader and coach ought to be...Rest in peace, my friend
