Lloyd Wendell Pleasants
born October 15, 1920 in Lynchburg, Virginia passed away on January 6, 2015. In his occupation he will be best remembered as a teacher although he was also a preacher, contractor and most recently a greeter at Meijer on Southport Road where he worked until age 89. He was a member of the Southside Seventh Day Adventist Church where he sang in the choir. He also served as an elder and member of the church board and helped with the planning and construction of the church at 4801 Shelbyville Road, Indianapolis. He served in the Army Air Corps in WWII and was married to Edith Lenore Walther on April 10, 1942.
Lloyd is survived by his three children, Teresa Pleasants, Michael Pleasants, and Larry Pleasants; five grandchildren, Melody Rooker, Anton Reed, Christiana Kincaid, Alexander Pleasants and Catherine Fulp; eight great-grandchildren, Ashley Rooker, Aiden Morgan-Pleasants, Braden Reed, Ricky Kincaid, Ethan Kincaid, Caleb Kincaid, Adison Fulp and Sophia Pleasants; a sister, Nancy Kendall; two brothers, Richard Pleasants and Wayne Pleasants, and a sister, Nancy Shram, preceded him in death, as did his grandson, Benjamin Pleasants.
Service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 9, 2015 at Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the mortuary. I would like to express my deepest sympathy to your family with the passing of Lloyd. I loved the times when he would stop by the office and chat. I remember one time he brought me 2 cans of garbonzo beans just because they were some special brand. He had a very kind heart & no doubt he will be missed by many.
