Mary Beth Bates

Indianapolis - 81, of Indianapolis, passed away May 2, 2018. She was born on June 6, 1936 in South Bend as the daughter of George and Doris Boughner.

After graduating high school in South Bend, Mary was a stay at home mother for several years while her children were small. When the time came that the kids were older she decided to enter the workforce as an executive assistant in retail and eventually moving into an executive assistant role at St. Vincent.

Mary will always be remembered by her family as a strong and loving mother and grandmother. She had a love of many things in her life, but her greatest love was her kids. She loved taking summer vacations with her family, with Lake Shaffer being one of her favorite spots to visit.

Mary is survived by her children; Sherry (Richard) Goodwin, Jeff Bates, Chris (Beth) Bates, and Kim Clark. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and 1 sister Deborah (Andrew) Stromberg.

She was proceeded in death by her parents.

There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at 2pm. Services will be held at Flanner Buchanan - Washington Park North, 2706 Kessler Blvd. West Drive.

Mary was the sister I never had, my dearest friend. She was such a loving, caring, fun, trustworthy woman. I will deeply miss her the rest of my life❤ My heart goes out to her family.
