Matthew John Waters
14, died Friday evening, March 22, 2013. He was the son of John and Sonya Waters, and brother of Katy, Dawson and Nate, residents of Fishers, IN.
Matthew was an honors freshman at Herron High School in Indianapolis; a cornerback with the Lions Football Club; active in Herron Young Life; lover of the Rocky Mountains; was vibrant and full of life.
A memorial service for Matthew will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Redeemer Presbyterian Church, 1505 North Delaware, Indianapolis, IN 46202.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Herron Young Life, Herron - IN89, Urban Office, 4631 Lisborn Dr., Carmel, IN 46033-2200.

A year has gone by but I'm sure your grief is still great. I am so sorry. I just wanted you to know that Matthew's memorial service at Herron meant a great deal to my daughter, Isabelle, a fellow 9th grader, and made a very strong impression on me. You served as a model for me when I had to travel to my 18 year old son's boarding school and support the student body under the same circumstances this spring. As hard as this month has been for me, it would have been worse if I hadn't had your example. I hope that your family has found some modicum of peace as I hope ours will in the future. My heart is broken for you...for all of you! My breath is taken away. I don't have many words for you, but I pray my tears will somehow flow all the way to where you are. May you find some way to rest in our Father's arms.

Matt is a student who will always stick out in my mind. I'll continue to cherish the memories of him from his awesome smile to the challenge he gave me almost daily to catch him breaking some silly rule. I am honored to have been able to teach him and have him in my classroom. His empty seat will always serve as a reminder to hug each of my remaining kids just a little bit tighter.

Although I lost touch with you girls after you married, your family has always held a "SPECIAL" place in my heart. Our son and daughter were friends with Matt at school. Every word we ever heard from them about him was how kind, sweet, and just downright awesome he was. He definitely brought a light to their lives. As a faithful person, we know that he is being held in God's arms right now. But the pain for those left behind is great. My thoughts and prayers are with your family and his friends. He was always in a great mood when he came into class and was extremely polite. I remember his Marine Corps emblem belt buckle and being a Marine veteran myself, I was quite impressed with how proud he was of it and that he always displayed it in a very professional manner. Our hearts are absolutely breaking at your loss. Having four kids of our own, we are keenly aware of the indescribable love that grows between a parent and child. We couldn't imagine losing one of them. We grieve with you.

I can't believe that the wide-eyed Matthew is with Jesus today. I only knew him as one of the "little kids" during Lighthouse Academy and it's incredible to see how much he's grown up.
From the posts, I can easily tell that Matthew was a light to those who were lost as well as God's little child.

You loved us youth group kids so much, helped so many of us whom were ourselves so troubled as teens. My daughter was a classmate of Matt and the impact it has had on the kids at Herron has been tremendous. All are sad, but it has brought them closer, helped them think things through a little more regarding their own lives and has truly shown them the family they have at Herron.
