Milton Dickos Obituary

Milton J. Dickos

90, of Indianapolis, passed away on April 21, 2012. Milton was born on February 25, 1922 in Peru, IN, to Kostas and Theonimfe Dickos. He is survived by his beloved son and daughter, Dr. Dennis Dickos and Theone Dickos, both of Carmel, IN.

Milton graduated from Peru High School in 1940, earning his diploma and a full academic scholarship to Butler University—becoming the first person in his family to attend college. He made the most of his time at Butler, rising to become the president of his Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and the Butler University student body president. He graduated in 1944 with a degree in business and began work on a master's degree at Indiana University, but was prematurely called home to assist in the family business.

In 1948, Milton's life was officially blessed when he met the love of his live, Theodora Theoharous of Haverhill, MA. Milton and Theodora were married on October 10, 1948, and began their life and family together in Peru. For 62 years, they were a team in all matters: family, business, church, civic, and social.

In 1951, Milton moved his family to nearby Wabash where he ultimately partnered with his brother, Chris, to form MC Dickos Realty. Based upon the tenets of honesty, integrity, and loyalty, their company became an instant leader within the region's real estate community. The Dickos brothers worked side-by-side for more than 35 years.

Throughout his life, Milton modeled a strong sense of community and public service. He served in the US Army and was classified as sharpshooter. He served as president of the Wabash Chamber of Commerce, president of the Wabash County Realtors Association, a 9-year member of the Wabash City Schools School Board, and on numerous Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church projects and events.

Those closest to Milton remember him as a devoted family man and loyal friend, an engaging storyteller, a poet, a meticulous bookkeeper, and a prayerful servant of God. He never hesitated to express thanks for the blessings in his life—chief among them Theodora, Dennis, and Theone.

In 1986, Milton and Theodora relocated to Indianapolis to be closer to their children, their church, and many friends. Milton was preceded in death by his wife, Theodora, his brothers Paul and Chris, and his sister Ann Morris.

Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church or the Ladies Philoptochos Society, both at 3500 W. 106th Street, Carmel, IN 46032. Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 3500 W. 106th Street, Carmel, IN 46032. A Trisagion service will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the church Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 11 a.m. with calling from 10 a.m. until time of service. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, 9700 Allisonville Road. Friends are invited to leave online condolences for the family at: http://www.flannerbuchanan.com. Although we lived only two doors from your parents advanced age (theirs and ours) limited our contacts. Nevertheless we knew them well enough to benefit from and to enjoy their warmth and friendship. They were fine people and the memories which they have left you will provide some solace for your loss in the years to come. You have our deepest sympathy.
