Mitchell Daniels Obituary

Mitchell E. Daniels, Sr. 81, of Indianapolis, died August 5, 2004 at St. Vincent Hospital. Mr. Daniels was born on February 8, 1923 in Monessen, PA to the late Elias and Afifi (Hannah) Daniels. He proudly served in the United States Army Medical Corps. Mr. Daniels graduated from Allegheny College in 1944. He began a career in the pharmaceutical industry with Pitman-Moore Pharmaceutical Company and later joined the Dow Chemical Company. Mr. Daniels directed International Pharmaceutical Licensing Operations, before retiring in the position of Director of Governmental and Public Affairs for Dow Brands, after more than 38 years of employment. Following retirement, he became the founder of Japan America Society of Indiana and served as its first Executive Director. In addition, he had served as president of the American Marketing Association, Board Member of the Rotary Club of Indianapolis, and was a member of the Dean's Advisory Committee, Purdue University School of Science. Mr. Daniels was a long-time member of Tabernacle Presbyterian Church having served as an elder and a member of the sanctuary choir. His wife of 53 years, Dorothy "Dottie" (Wilkes) Daniels preceded him in death in April of 2001. Survivors include his children, Mitch Daniels, Jr., Deborah Daniels Mannweiler; brother, Russell Daniels; grandchildren, Meagan Niese, Melissa Daniels, Meredith Daniels, Margaret Daniels. Friends and family will gather on Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel. Funeral services to celebrate his life will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday in Tabernacle Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tabernacle Presbyterian Church.
