I became acquainted with Phyllis when she first joined the IU faculty; in fact, we shared an office for quite awhile. I could always depend on Phyllis to be forthright and honest about her perspectives on the many topics we discussed. Her insights and suggestions were always helpful, particularly in her review of my dissertation. She was truly inspirational. I will miss her very much. My condolences to Rick and the family.

Phyllis was a kind and generous person whom I will always remember for her contributions to so many faculty successes in scholarship. And her willingness to ask questions and provide sincere comments during faculty meetings which uncovered what some other staff and faculty were thinking was priceless.

I am sad to learn that Phyllis has passed. I know the last years during her long illness were hard for her and the family. She helped so many faculty become better writers and have successful publishing careers. I will always Romberg her passion to " get it right." Mary Fisher
